Caring for Others Starts with Caring for Ourselves
As allied health professionals, we’re wired to care for others – it’s what we do. But how often do we turn that care inward?
Today, on Self-Love Day, I’m reminded that to show up fully for the children and families we support, we need to show up for ourselves first. Burnout is real, and we can’t pour from an empty cup.
It’s important for OTs to prioritise self-care – whether that’s working on what is meaningful to you and in alignment with your values, taking proper breaks, connecting with peers, or just having a moment to breathe between sessions. Small acts of self-kindness make a big difference.
So today, I’m asking:
What’s one thing you can do for yourself that feels like self-love?
It could be something simple – a walk, a pause, acknowledging the work you’ve done this week, or reconnecting with your purpose.
What’s one self-love recommendation you have for other allied health professionals? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Let’s keep normalising self-care in our profession.
